Britney Spears Sues for $9.8 Million over Knee Injury

Britney Spears has filed suit in New York Supreme court against seven insurance companies in the UK and one in Paris over her knee injury last year prompting the cancellation of her "Onyx Hotel Tour". She is seeking 9.8 million dollars because all the companies refuse to honor her claim.

The insurance companies are refusing to pay because they say Spears lied on the application and failed to mention a previous injury and surgery to the same knee, thus nullifying any claims because of injury. Spears' claims it was a simple mistake and that she had forgotten all about the injury since she had fully recovered and it was almost five years previous.

On the application there is a question about previous injuries or surgery within the last five years. Reportedly, at the time Spears signed the documents, the surgery had been four years and 11 months past, but still within the five year limit, prompting the companies to refuse the claim.

VH-1 quotes "These are the same insurers who had provided her with policies on [several] tours and they had cleared her and were aware of the previous injury," said Jonathan Stoler, one of Spears' attorneys. "

But the BBC quotes a Jive records spokesperson as saying at the time "She obviously took a wrong step and blew out her knee... It was an old dance injury."

VH-1 quotes Stoler as saying "Same knee, opposite side," Stoler said, adding that even after the Moline stage injury, the insurers offered to extend Spears' coverage."

So now it goes to the courts to decide if Spears mislead her insurers or if they are just looking for an excuse to keep the almost 10 million Spears claims they owe her.
